Demon X V7 D3O A.I. Impact Shorts – Men
Demon X V7 D3O A.I. Impact Shorts – Men
The X V7 Shorts are worth considering when you want tailbone and seat padding together with adjustable waist and comfort features. The short cut leaves your knees free, letting you choose separate knee pads for snowboarding or arrange your skiing layers as you prefer. For cycling, the relationship between seat padding and saddle matters too. C.B.I.S. and TPS provide different ways to refine the fit alongside choosing the correct garment size.
Distinguishing D3O from comfort foam
A D3O T6 Hip insert is permanently sewn in at the tailbone and buttocks. Ordinary Plush foam cushions the hip area and thighs. The removable TPS insert is additional comfort foam, not a D3O protector. T6 Hip is the name of the component; its position in these shorts is at the tailbone and seat.
The sewn-in T6 Hip insert is 9 mm thick and has a thin integrated shell face. D3O stays supple during ordinary movement and offers greater resistance under rapid compression. Softer Plush zones spread comfort padding across the hip area and thighs, giving different parts of the garment different material constructions.
T.P.S. V2 means Total Padding System. The comfort foam can be adjusted using its designated attachment. This does not make the sewn-in D3O insert removable or freely repositionable. A.I. Plush Padding™ (Air Pad Integrated) is Demon’s term for the comfort-padding construction with air channels. Separately, the black TPS comfort insert has a stated adjustment range of 2 inches, about 5 cm, in several directions. This lets you position the extra soft cushioning where it feels comfortable, for example when sitting to fasten a snowboard binding.
A.I. air channels are arranged by zone within the padding. They let the comfort layer deform with movement and support air circulation. Open mesh in the stretchy carrier helps air and moisture pass through. The V7 also uses softer foam in place of the yellow Rogers foam layer used in the V6.
Waist adjustment and connection
C.B.I.S., the Cross-Belt Integration System, uses two overlapping waistband straps. The overlapping straps share tension around the waist and help limit sagging and rotation during movement. Adjust them so the shorts sit close when you bend without digging in. Lycra and mesh form the stretch carrier. X-Connect allows connection to compatible Demon X-Series tops from V4 through V7.
Check the fit on snow and in the saddle
When snowboarding, buckling in often means moving from standing to sitting and back again. You can adjust the extra TPS foam to suit that seated position, while the sewn-in T6 remains fixed at the tailbone and seat. C.B.I.S. has a different job: its overlapping straps distribute tension around the waist. That lets you adjust seated comfort and waist fit separately instead of simply pulling the waistband tighter for both.
For ski days, the short cut leaves the knee area free. This suits an outfit with knee pads you already like, or independently chosen layers around the knees. Mountain biking adds contact with the saddle: this padding is not a cycling chamois. If you also wear padded cycling shorts, assess the combination while pedalling and rising out of the saddle. More material at the seat is not automatically more comfortable.
Care and use
Do not cut out the sewn-in D3O insert or unpick its seams. Remove comfort foam only through the intended opening. Hand-wash the textile cold with mild detergent; wipe removed padding with a damp cloth only, without cleaning products. Allow everything to air-dry completely at room temperature in a ventilated place, away from direct sunlight. Avoid washing machines, tumble dryers and direct heat. Do not bleach, wring, spin, iron or dry-clean. Do not use fabric softener. Do not wash or soak removed inserts.
Intended for non-motorised cycling and snow sports at a recreational pace, not motorsports. The padding can cushion mild impacts and reduce superficial injury, but cannot prevent serious injury. Inspect padding, seams and fastenings before each use and after an impact. Replace damaged equipment and, after an impact, replace it if in doubt.

Questions and answers
- Can I reposition the D3O insert?
-
No. The T6 Hip insert is sewn in at the tailbone and seat. TPS adjustment concerns the designated comfort foam, not the position of that fixed D3O component.
- How do these differ from the X V7 Pants?
-
The Pants add a longer carrier and foam padding at the knees. These Shorts leave the knees unpadded so separate knee pads can be chosen and fitted independently.
- Do I have to buy a matching top?
-
No. X-Connect offers a link to a compatible top. The shorts still need to fit comfortably in the correct size without relying on that connection.
- What does A.I. mean here?
-
A.I. stands for Air Pad Integrated. A.I. Plush Padding™ is the comfort padding with air channels that allow it to flex as you move.

Two adjustments, two jobs
Adjust the waistband before positioning the TPS comfort insert. This makes it easier to tell whether a change improves the insert’s fit or merely moves the whole pair of shorts.
