The X V7 brings back, chest, shoulder and elbow padding together in one close-fitting layer beneath your sports clothing. That makes it a useful choice when you want several padded areas and prefer to fit them with your jacket or jersey as a complete outfit. Reaching for snowboard bindings, using ski poles and holding the handlebars all involve different arm positions. The stretch carrier and adjustable straps give you ways to refine the fit around those movements.

Understanding the padding layout

A D3O BP4 L1 insert sits at the back, with a CP1 Compact L1 F at the chest. T6 inserts cover the shoulders and elbows, while ordinary foam provides additional cushioning at the ribs. The D3O protectors come out through the designated pocket openings. Chest protection and rib cushioning are separate parts of the construction, rather than interchangeable descriptions.

The inserts differ in shape and thickness. The shoulder and elbow T6 pieces are 9 mm thick, with a thin integrated shell face. Soft O2 foam backing adds comfort behind these joint inserts. D3O remains supple during ordinary movement and offers greater resistance when compressed rapidly.

The ventilated BP4 back insert is 16 mm thick, while the compact CP1 chest insert is 11 mm thick and sits over the breastbone. These measurements describe the individual protectors. Articulated padding at the ribs and abdomen can follow a turn of your torso. Additional foam below the collarbones and across the upper chest completes the layout.

Stretch Lycra and mesh form the carrier, with a side zip to help you put it on. Chest and elbow straps provide adjustment alongside the close-fitting ACF cut (Athletic Compression Fit), letting you check and refine the position of the garment. The low neckline keeps this padded layer clear of a high jacket collar. Open mesh helps air and moisture pass through, while Lycra supplies stretch when you bend towards a binding or reach for the handlebars. In the change from V6 to V7, the yellow Rogers foam layer was replaced with softer foam.

How the construction works with your sport

Snowboarding means moving between standing upright and bending down to reach a binding. Stretch Lycra and the articulated foam at the ribs and abdomen allow room for that change of posture, while the back insert still needs to sit centrally. Try the top with your snowboard jacket fastened: extra room in the jacket is useful only if the top itself fits closely enough to keep its inserts in position.

Ski pole movements involve both shoulders and elbows. The T6 inserts sit in the sleeves, with separate protectors at the chest and back. The elbow straps let you adjust the fit around a bent arm independently of the chest. This makes the top a practical choice for wearing those padded zones together, provided the rest of your clothing leaves enough room for movement.

On a mountain bike, your arms and torso spend longer reaching forward. Mesh, the ventilated BP4 and the stretch fabric help accommodate that arrangement, although a less breathable outer layer can still restrict airflow. Choose this top when you want chest, back and joint padding together. If you only want a back protector, consider a simpler combination instead of removing the other inserts from this top.

Connecting to an X-Series lower layer

X-Connect links the top to compatible Demon X-Series shorts or pants from V4 through V7. Check the fittings on the item you already own. Linking the garments can help maintain their position relative to each other, but still depends on correct sizing. The separate Ghost Rib Protector is an optional accessory and is not included with this top.

Care and intended use

Ease the removable inserts out before cleaning. Hand-wash the textile in cold water with mild detergent; clean removed protectors with a damp cloth only, without cleaning products. Air-dry everything away from direct sunlight and heaters, then refit the completely dry inserts in their correct positions and orientation. Do not machine-wash or tumble-dry. Do not bleach, wring, spin, iron or dry-clean. Do not wash or soak removed inserts.

Inspect seams, straps and inserts before every use and after an impact. Replace damaged parts and any impacted protector you are unsure about. Do not use fabric softener on the textile.

The top is intended for non-motorised cycling and snow sports at a recreational pace, not motorsports. Its padding can cushion mild impacts and reduce superficial injury; it cannot prevent serious injury.

Do I also need separate elbow pads?

T6 elbow inserts are already part of the top. Adding another pad over them may affect fit, so assess any combination fully dressed for correct coverage and freedom of movement.

Can I ride with the chest or back insert removed?

Removal allows cleaning and correct refitting. Use the top for sport with its intended protectors in place; taking an insert out does not leave equivalent padding in that area.

Will X-Connect attach to every Demon pant?

No. You need compatible X-Series shorts or pants with matching fittings. The same brand or a similar model name alone does not establish compatibility.

How should the sleeves fit?

The elbow inserts should remain over the elbows as you bend and straighten your arms. Adjust the straps comfortably and check that the sleeves do not twist under your outer clothing.
