Demon X V7 D3O Impact Top – Women

The women’s X V7 brings several padded areas into one long-sleeved layer. Back, chest, shoulders and elbows have their own inserts, which can be removed for care. It is a straightforward arrangement when you prefer one complete top under ski or snowboard clothing and also want to combine it with a cycling jersey. The side zip and separate chest and elbow adjustment help with dressing and setting up the fit with the clothing layers you actually use.

D3O at the chest, back and joints

The top contains a BP4 L1 back insert, a CP1 Compact L1 F chest insert and T6 inserts at the shoulders and elbows. These D3O protectors can be removed from their designated pockets. Additional ordinary foam cushions the ribs. Chest and rib areas therefore have different constructions; the CP1 insert sits at the chest, with foam adding comfort at the sides.

The joint padding uses 9 mm T6 inserts, each combining a thin integrated shell face with soft O2 foam on the body-facing side. D3O bends during normal movement and offers more resistance to rapid compression. Each shoulder and each elbow has its own insert in this construction.

The torso uses a different arrangement. The BP4 back protector has ventilation openings and is 16 mm thick. The 11 mm CP1 Compact sits with a low profile over the breastbone. Articulated ordinary foam supplements the ribs and abdomen, with further foam below the collarbones and at the upper chest. These foam areas are not additional CP1 or T6 protectors.

The Lycra and mesh carrier fits close to the body. A side zip helps with putting the top on and taking it off. Chest and elbow adjustment complements the close-fitting ACF cut (Athletic Compression Fit). The low neckline keeps this padded layer clear of a high jacket collar. Open mesh helps air and moisture pass through, while Lycra supplies stretch when you bend towards a binding or reach for the handlebars. In the change from V6 to V7, the yellow Rogers foam layer was replaced with softer foam.

Fit it with the clothing you use

Try the top with your intended underwear or base layer. Take a deep breath and raise your arms: the chest section should sit close without uncomfortable pressure. Add your jacket or jersey afterwards. A fit that feels comfortable on its own can change under a snug outer layer.

For snowboard days, combining back and arm padding is useful when you want those areas together under one jacket. You bend your torso to buckle in and straighten again to stand up. Articulated torso foam and stretch fabric can follow that sequence, with the straps used to set a suitable fit beforehand. Uncomfortable tension at the chest is not a reason to tighten everything further.

For skiing, shoulder movement and pole use deserve particular attention when trying the top. Elbow straps adjust independently of the chest. Cycling adds a sustained forward back position to bent arms. The long sleeves carry the joint inserts with them; comfort under your jersey depends on the full outfit. A vest leaves you a different choice for the arms, whereas this top is intended to be worn with all its inserts.

Wear it alone or connect the layers

Wear the top beneath outer clothing, with the option of connecting it to compatible Demon X-Series shorts or pants from V4 through V7 using X-Connect. The link supports the relative position of the garments; correct sizing remains essential. The Ghost Rib Protector is a separately available accessory, not part of this top’s supplied equipment.

Cleaning and preparing for use

Ease the D3O inserts out through their designated pocket openings. Hand-wash the textile in cold water with mild detergent. Wipe removed protectors with a damp cloth only, without cleaning products. Air-dry away from direct sunlight and heaters, then replace the completely dry inserts in their correct orientation. Do not use a washing machine or tumble dryer. Do not bleach, wring, spin, iron or dry-clean. Do not wash or soak removed inserts.

Do not add fabric softener to the textile wash. Check the top after an impact too, replacing damaged parts or impacted protectors you are unsure about.

Before use, inspect the padding, seams, pockets and straps. The top is for non-motorised cycling and snow sports at a recreational pace, not motorsports. It can cushion mild impacts and reduce superficial injury, but cannot prevent serious injury.

Questions and answers

Will I need a bigger jacket?

Try your existing jacket over the top first. Your arms, breathing and zip need comfortable room. There is no universal rule that every wearer should move up one clothing size.

How tight should the chest straps be?

Set them to hold the top comfortably against the body with the insert in its intended position. You must still breathe deeply and move freely. Extra tension cannot compensate for the wrong size.

Is there CP1 padding at the ribs too?

No. The CP1 Compact L1 F is at the chest. The ribs have additional ordinary foam cushioning.

Can I leave inserts out for a thinner fit?

Use the intended protectors together when riding. Removal is for care and correct refitting; the garment does not provide equivalent padding with an insert absent.
